Online survey If you have recently walked any part of the Greensand Ridge Walk then Central Bedfordshire Council would be interested in what you thought of it. They have provided an online survey form and would be grateful if you could take a few moments of your time to fill it in.
Great news, the Milton Keynes Bridgebuilder Trust sponsored charity walk was completed on 15 May 2010.
About 50 people took part in the event, including a couple of youth groups, when walkers negotiated Central Bedfordshire’s 40 mile route from east to west finishing their journey at Stockgrove Country Park.
All had a splendid time and three of the intrepid hikers achieved a spectacular completion time of less than 14 hours.
The photo above show members of the youth group from Whaddon Way Church in Bletchley as they cross Woburn Park.
Andy Brown (photo on the left) completed the 40 miles, along with Geoff Hamilton and David Ormerod who also finished the walk. David’s teenage son Joel managed an admirable 27 miles (photo on the right).
Visit the MKBT website for more information about the charity.
Congratulations to Terry McHugh and the team for their overnight challenge to complete the length of the Greensand Ridge Walk one and a half times. Terry and his friends undertook the challenge to support the work of two charities, Help for Heroes (H4H) and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Here is his account of their journey:
‘Well folks we did it , 100kms in 27hrs 45mins, we did suffer a couple of casualties to the heat, which reached up to 29 degrees, and some muscle and blister injuries, but four of us did make it to the end.
We left Gamlingay in Cambridgeshire at 10am on Friday 25 June and eventually found our way 42 miles in at Leighton Buzzard at 4am, much to the amazement of the staff at the local Tesco store! and after a brief stop of 30 mins we made our way back to Ampthill arriving at 1.45pm on Saturday, a welcome drink at the local pub followed by 14 hrs sleep and now all is well.
A good test of stamina for the majority of us over 50 years old! The total amount raised was just under £4000 which was amazing especially as our original target was £2000!!
My grateful thanks to all of you who sponsored the team - the easy work was the walk; in these times putting your hand in your pocket is the hard part’
Once again many thanks!
Terry and the team
